Restoring Dignity

Restoring Dignity & Hope for People Living with Disabilities in Rural Kenya

Supporting vulnerable individuals with care, therapy, and essential needs.

Sarah Auma, Founder of Sarah Auma Foundation

Our Story

One Woman's Mission to Restore Dignity

Sarah Auma Foundation was born out of love, pain, faith, and a deep desire to bring hope.

The inspiration behind the foundation is Sarah's sister, Naomi, who developed an autoimmune condition that led to multiple strokes, leaving her partially paralyzed. For over 10 years, Sarah and her family walked closely with Naomi — supporting her through therapy, emotional struggles, and the realities of living with a long-term disability.

Through this journey, they encountered many challenges:

  • The high cost of physiotherapy
  • Limited access to rehabilitation services
  • Emotional strain on families and caregivers
  • Social isolation and stigma
  • The heavy burden of poverty

But they also discovered something powerful: they were not alone. Across their community, many families were silently struggling with similar challenges.

What We Do

Bringing Care Directly to Those Who Need It Most

Sarah Auma Foundation is a community-based organization focused on delivering accessible rehabilitation and holistic support to people living with disabilities and their families, in the rural areas of Ngairwe, Matungu, Mumias, Kakamega, Western Kenya.

Through outreach programs, the foundation brings services directly to those who need them most — especially in underserved and low-income communities.

At our outreach events, we provide:

  • Physiotherapy and rehabilitation services
  • Mental health and counselling support
  • Needs assessments led by social workers
  • Registration support for persons with disabilities (including certification)
  • Assistive devices such as splints and compression wear
  • Basic supplies including diapers and personal care items
  • Nutritional support (maize, rice, flour for specialized feeding)

These services are more than aid — they are life-changing interventions that restore dignity, independence, and hope.

The Need

The Need Is Overwhelming

While initial plans targeted 42 beneficiaries, outreach events have seen over 60 people — and counting — seeking help. Many travel long distances, hoping for support.

Behind each number is a story:

No Access to Basic Care

Patients unable to afford even the most basic medical support or treatment.

Without intervention, many conditions worsen unnecessarily — not because they cannot be managed, but because help is out of reach.
